Do you only rent kits?
Yes, we offer rentals in pre-made kits. Our kits are curated and packed based on the type of rental (backpacking, car camping, or excursion camping), however, individual items may be added. Check out our add on items.
What are the rental terms?
Each rental duration is based on the number of nights you will be using the gear but starts with a minimum cost of 3 nights and an additional charge for each night after that. You do not need to use the gear for 3 nights, however, that is our minimal rental cost. Each renter will be emailed our rental agreement which needs to be reviewed, signed and returned.
How do you distribute the gear?
Part of what keeps Maui Camping Company competitively priced is that we don’t have a store front. We have a pick up locker location close to the airport and Costco where the camping gear can be picked up and dropped off anytime during day and evening hours. Once the gear rentals are confirmed, we will send you the information on pick up and lock code.
How do I know what’s available?
Fill out our availability inquiry form to let us know what you need, when you need it, and how long you plan to use it. A team member will contact you within the next business day to confirm if we have the kit you need available.
If rental is within 24 hours, please leave a phone number in addition to email and we will do our best to accommodate your request.
The earlier you plan the better, so we can make sure we have what you need in stock!
How do I pay for the gear?
Once your order has been confirmed as available, you will purchase your kit from an invoice sent to your email address from Maui Camping Company. Your full payment of the equipment rental is your reservation. We use PayPal (a secure payment system) which accepts all major credit cards. Check availability via our online inquiry form.
What's the cancellation policy?
As long as we are notified of your desire to cancel your order via email 48 hours or more from the date of your first rental night, you will receive a full refund, sent back to you from our PayPal system.
If Maui Camping Company is notified less than 48 hours from the date of your first rental night, a fee will be assessed at 50% of the total rental cost.
What about clothes, food, toiletries, sunscreen, etc?
You are responsible for these types of items. This is mainly because of preferences and allergies. Sunscreen is definitely strongly recommended, as the sun can be intense around here.
Please use the reef safe sunscreens.
Always look at the ingredient lists to make sure reef-damaging substances aren't used. Oxybenzone, butylparaben, octinoxate and 4-methylbenzylidine camphor have been shown to cause coral bleaching, even at low levels.
The Hana side gets more rain, so prepare accordingly.
Camping in the crater of Haleakala can get cold at night, down to 30-40F degrees. Every few years it can SNOW up there in the winter. The weather can change quickly and it can be really windy as well.
