History

Hosmer Grove in Maui has a rich history that dates back to the late 1800s. The grove is named after Dr. Clarence T. Hosmer. He was a physician and botanist who introduced non-native tree species to Hawaii, including many of the trees in Hosmer Grove today. In the early 1900s, the area was used as a forest reserve to protect the native trees and plants from logging and development. Today, Hosmer Grove is part of the larger Haleakala National Park, which was established in 1916. The park is home to some of Maui's most iconic natural features. This includes the Haleakala Crater, a dormant volcano that rises to over 10,000 feet above sea level.
